Professional Portfolios

In the dim recesses of the past—like the 1980s—it may have seemed like the only people who discussed their “portfolios” were artists and maybe journalists (and, of course, investment bankers, but that’s a different kind of portfolio); now, though, it seems that nearly everyone whose work produces a tangible product has one. I’m no different. Well, I may be a little bit different: I don't have one portfolio—I have four. My portfolios are electronic and will be available on this Website, but many contain “paperlike” works that require Adobe Reader to access. In each portfolio, these works will be identified, so you're aware.

Below, is an annotated listing of my portfolios. Please note that I am in the process of recoding my previous portfolios of work so that they fit the overall design of this site. Thank you for your patience in this process.

Teaching Portfolio

Teaching—being a professor—is what I primarily do. I’ve been doing this as my primary occupation since 1997, and full-time since 2004. This portfolio is a selective, reflective record of my work in teaching as a graduate student and professor, 1997-2007.

Portfolio of Research & Scholarship

Along with teaching, my chosen career also involves scholarly activity: making presentations at conferences; publishing articles, chapters, and books—in short, improving both the state of knowledge in my chosen field and the processes for teaching within that field. This portfolio contains a selective and reflective record of my non-teaching work as a scholar in English Studies.

Design Portfolio

Finally, I consider myself a professional in the field of design, as well as in higher education. Most of the work I have done in this field is electronic, focusing specifically on work done for presentation on the Web. This Website (www.michaelkapper.com) is the primary example of my work as a Web designer, and this portfolio, as it grows, will contain examples of my other work completed in design.

Photography Portfolio

While I do not consider myself a professional photographer, I do feel that I am a talented and skilled amateur. This portfolio presents a sampling of my photographic work, which is primarily landscape and architectural in nature, though there is also some portrait work included here.
